I don't know about anyone else, but I try to keep my car out of NYC whenever possible; that combined with the fact that my wife laughed in my face when I asked if she would mind driving the hoopty for the weekend so I could take the new car up to New York, means I'm not driving up and I'm looking to slum a ride. I think I have a tenative agreement with Pete the Rock to ride up with him, but things have a way of falling apart so I'm hedging my bets and looking at other transportation options.
The train is crazy expensive, like $200 for a roundtrip at the times we're looking so that's out. However, there are a couple of different Chinatown Bus options that are only about $40 roundtrip and a couple of slightly more upscale bus service that includes wireless internet and a new bus service that looks like it's already sold out for the weekend we're traveling. If anyone is interested in taking the bus up to NYC and removing drunk driving as one possible way to get arrested at a rugby tournament leave a comment and let me know.
Later,
KJ

Let me know about those fancy busses with wireless. I'd rather take one of those than a chinatown to chinatown bus that is half off with live chicken
You could just click on the links I included, but the DC2NY bus is $40 round trip if buy in advance on their website. They have busses leaving at 4:30, 5:30, and 6:30 from 14th between H & I that Friday night.
depending on interest, we could also look into renting a van. it's a pain to park, but will give us an onsite HQ in case of bad weather...
A van isn't a bad idea if we can pull it together. You can get to the games no problem by cab but there is no easy way to get back out again unless you already have a ride lined up. We can probably rent a minivan for the weekend on the relatively cheap.
This is why we need a bus...
a 7 passenger minivan would be $193 for the weekend. thoughts?
Is that van rental for two days or three? If that's the rate for a Fri-Sun rental then I can get a better deal. Also, you're not going to be able to fit 7 guys and all of their junk in a minivan.
The bus may be our best bet, we can party on the way up and we don't have to dick around with parking.
That deal was friday-sunday. I know we won't be able to get 7 guys plus their gear, probably only 5. The bigger concern is getting out and back form the field as its an island and cabs don't come out there, plus bad weather with no HQ as robb said would suck.
I hear ya about the necessity of a mobile command center. I can get a minivan from Fri evening to Sun evening for about $125, but you'll have to pick it up at National. I can have the confirmation info sent to whomever.
I think its still a good idea to coordinate a bus expedition for guys that don't want to drive up.
