Getting Rugby Into The Olympics

Here is a great cause in which you can be active. Baseball and Softball were officially axed from the 2012 games. In their place, two sports will be added. On the shortlist were: Rugby Sevens, Karate, Golf, Squash, and Roller Sports. At an International Olympic Committee (IOC) meeting in 2004 the field was narrowed to Squash and Karate. Neither sport gained enough votes for inclusion in the 2012 games. The IOC will meet again in October 2009 in Copenhagen to hold another vote. Again Rugby Sevens is on the shortlist.

What can you do?

Head over to the IRB's website on the subject. They explain why Sevens should be included in the Olympics and give a link to the "Virtual Olympic Congress," a public forum that will be used by the IOC at their meeting in 2009.
