Anti-Establishment Post of the Week

Very few things get me riled up and I'm not prone to posting any activist B.S. But watching this video from Gizmodo has caused me to break both of the aforementioned rules.

Here is Jack Nicholson from 1978...THIRTY YEARS AGO...driving a hydrogen powered car. If you need any proof of the corrupt nature of certain industries to impede the progress of clean technologies look no further than this. To give some perspective, Read More to see the amazing progress of other technologies since 1978.

1978 - Apple Lisa
Before the iMac and Macbook Pro we had the Apple Lisa debut in 1978. One of the most advanced (and expensive) home computers of its generation, it was powered by a 5MHz! Processor and 1MB of RAM. This was also one of the first computers to have a hard drive, with a whole 10MB of storage!!!!

Today - Alienware Area-51 ALX
Now for less than the cost of the Apple Lisa in 1978 you can get a quad core beast with processing power three orders of magnitude per core faster than the Lisa. And if you like zeros, the storage capacity of the top model Lisa was 10,000,000 bytes. The storage capacity of the base model Alienware is: 600,000,000,000 bytes and expandable to 4,000,000,000,000 bytes.

1978 - Have Blue (Stealth)
In 1978 Lockheed Martin began a secretive program called "Have Blue." The goal was to reduce the radar cross-section of bombers penetrating deeply into Soviet Airspace. The program continued on a brisk pace and the first F-117 Stealth Bomber flew in 1981.

Today - F-22, B-2, JSF, X-45, DDX
With the F-117 having expended its service life, our military today has a menu of stealth aircraft to choose from. Even after the fall of the Soviet union development of stealth technology continued unabated and no other country in the world has successfully brought the technology to a mature stage. Hell, we're even building a stealthy guided missile destroyer!

1978 - Phillips K9
The 1970's saw the advent of color TV. By the late 70's Phillips had the K9 and most households that had TV's usually never had more than 1.

Today - SHARP AQUOS 65" 1080p LCD HDTV
We go from the birth of color TV to high-definition displays of proportions no one thought imaginable in 1978. Many people may use the "infrastructure" counterpoint in the hydrogen car debate: that it has been too difficult to install the necessary delivery systems to allow a hydrogen economy. I call bullshit, how about the infrastructure of digital cable and fiber optic lines, servers, set-top boxes, and fucking satellites that it takes to deliver the latest episode of The Hills to your 4 LCD TV's.

Preach on Brother Koz... personally I say we just go ahead and eliminate 5.5 billion people on the earth today. By my Malthusian projections that should bring us down to a diverse, enlightened, and sustainable population. Through the wonders of genetic mapping and Intellectual quotients we can euthanize the lowest common denominator (present company exempt, of course) to build a race of intellectually superior rugby playing SUPER MEN. But seriously... where the hell is my Diesel-Hybrid Small Pickup Truck?

Oh no! The West Pot blog has gone political.
