I have traded my rugby jersey in (for the time being) for firefighter bunker gear. My Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday schedule is now Firefighter School for the City of Fairfax crawling in dark Smoky places, drenched in sweat and sucking air from a bottle. Most of my classmates are over 20 years my junior making me the Skeletor of Fire School. I am quickly learning why 50% of all firefighter deaths are heart attacks!

The program is grueling. It goes from Mid Sept to Mid April. Tue/Thur/Sat. I have had 12 classes so far and have about 56 left. I had no idea this was so involved. However, it is pretty interesting. This week's subject is search and rescue so tomorrow we will be doing all the different carries and drags as well as possibly using some extrication tools and searching for each other in a dark, smoky building...
I have been doing the various training since last year. It goes on forever... I became a certified EMT last May and have done no more than put a band aid on a couple of kids so far. I hope by next April I will be able to come out and play again...
