Selection Pool Released for U.S. Rugby World Cup Sevens Team

The U.S. Men's and Women's national sevens sides released their selection pool for the upcoming Rugby Sevens World Cup, March 5-7 in Dubai. The Men's USA squad is situated in Pool "B" for the Seven's World Cup along with France, Georgia, and the likely pool favorite Fiji.

Separately from the World Cup Sevens, the USA is competing in the IRB World Series Sevens. The USA currently has 4 points after loosing to Portugal 24-7 in the Semi Finals of the IRB South Africa Sevens event in December. The current Sevens world series standing are:

  • South Africa: 40
  • New Zealand: 28
  • England: 24
  • Fiji: 24
  • Argentina: 16
  • Samoa: 12
  • Portugal: 8
  • Kenya: 6
  • Australia: 4
  • USA: 4
  • France: 2
The team is currently training at the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center in preparation for the next IRB Sevens World Series Tournament in Wellington, New Zealand on Feb 6th & 7th. The Eagles find themselves in a difficult pool with opponents Fiji, Samoa, and the Cook Islands.
