I just met this girl but don't expect to see her at the next team social...she is entirely computer generated...the whole scene is CGI. We've come along way since the days of "Money for Nothing."
I feel that we've reached the days of visually convincing photorealism in computer generated imagery. We have not, I believe reached the point where we can fully suspend our disbelief that the characters we are watching are not real. We can tell what is computer generated by not only visual ques in the scene but also by the way the character behaves...CGI characters have a harder time effectively conveying emotion and we perceive a lack of "life" to these characters.
Pixar did a wonderful job making Wall-E connect with audiences and showed us that a non-human CGI character can convey a range of emotions. The people at Pendulum Studios (who I have covered in the past) are making great progress on facial motion capture to make CGI characters more believable.
If you want to see more eye-popping CGI scenes head over to this forum at CG Society. If you are lazy just click "Read More" for an awesome CGI tribute to Morgan Freeman.
